After his death, Gunter’s mother sent several letters to the military for some information about the death of her son. In the letter finally answering her requests, the names of two of his shipmates were given, Ross Clifford Blake (RM1c, San Francisco, California) and Wallace Perry Broadwell (RM3c, San Francisco, California), but no information can be found on the internet or normal ancestry. Since there are no obituaries found, they are probably alive, but there are not any clues as to where they may be or how to contact them. Memorials
Gunter is memorialized in George County at Magnolia Cemetery as well as in Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. His memorial appears on the Walls of the Missing, shown below. Gunter received a Purple Heart officially, as well as the Bronze Star, American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Pacific Medal with Four Stars, and Presidential Unit Citation Bar.
